Hardwood floor refinishing is the process of restoring the surface of natural wood flooring to its original beauty by removing signs of wear and applying new protective coatings.

Corey Walker Flooring not only does hardwood floor refinishing but enjoys restoring and refinishing old floors and having the chance to install and finish the new installations. Hardwood floor refinishing was the first trade Corey entered in flooring and still enjoys it today, well most days.

Our Refinishing Process

  • Sanding: The removal of old paint, finish, and the top layer of wood to create a smooth, raw surface.
  • Staining (Optional): Applying a color (such as Red Mahogany) to the bare wood to change its appearance.
  • Coating: Applying multiple protective layers (often 3 coats of polyurethane) in a choice of finishes like satin or gloss.
  • Finishing Touches: Reinstalling or adding new trim, such as quarter-round molding, to complete the look.

Key Benefits

  • Renewable Surface: One of the greatest advantages of solid hardwood is that it can be sanded and refinished multiple times over many decades.
  • Restoration: It can effectively remove most surface scratches and old finishes, essentially making the floor look new again.
  • Longevity: Proper maintenance and periodic refinishing allow solid hardwood to last 50 to 100+ years.
